As with any kind of big work, remodeling can be nerve-wracking and expensive. Usually we all turn to kitchen professionals to make sure we save money and have the job completed faster without problems or mistakes. But how can you know what to do and what to choose for your brand-new kitchen? In this article we are going to give you some tips so you could see what is needed to create a luxury kitchen and also what to do for renovations.

1. Make an island before buying one

An island is always the best if you want more counter and storage space. It is also very sophisticated and fills in empty space. However, an island can limit the number of people in the kitchen, reduce traffic flow in one-way with no passing and make your kitchen look cramped. We advise you to build one before buying. You could create a full-scale model out of cardboard or plywood and put it in your kitchen. However, make sure to keep it at a distance from your stove and refrigerator to have access.  If you realize that there is no space for an island, you could always put in a kitchen trolley instead.

2. Make a temporary kitchen

After you have taken down all your cabinets in the old kitchen to put in new ones, you can still find a use for them. If you set up a temporary kitchen in your house, you can cook, wash dishes and so much more while the other one is under renovation. If you can, save some cabinets and countertops to build your makeshift kitchen. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just functional. Make sure you can plug in your microwave, coffee maker etc.

3. Space for a mini office

Some people like to use their kitchen as an office. If you want to avoid clutter on the countertops, you could always make a small office part of your remodel. There is no need for a big space. Make sure to have a small sitting area with a computer. Add internet and outlets for plugging in your computer equipment. Moreover, you can add storage space like shelving or a wall mounted cabinet.

4. Space for a bigger fridge

If you have decided to put in new cabinets but want to keep your old refrigerator, make sure to leave enough space between cabinets so you can replace your fridge with a wider model later. To do that you can use filler strips or panels – make sure to order the filler strips and the panels with your new cabinets to match everything. Oak kitchen cabinets combined with panels and fllers are very sophisticated and beautiful.

5. Floor gaps

If you want to replace your cabinets but not your floors, be careful of the gaps between the old floor and the new cabinets. It is possible that your new cabinets won’t fit the existing cabinet footprint. Before you buy them, make sure the new cabinets match the width of the ones you’re replacing. If they don’t, you can always hide the gaps with molding.

6. Measure the countertops and cabinets

To avoid any kind of surprises, you should measure the installed cabinets before ordering the countertops, don’t use the plans! Your cabinets may have a different dimension after installation due to out-of-square walls. Use a carpenter’s square in the corner over the end cabinet. Measure to the farthest point of the wall over the cabinets to avoid an ugly gap between the countertop and the wall after the countertops are installed.

7. Under-cabinet storage racks

Pull-down racks give you instant access to kitchen essentials without the clutter of spice racks or knife holders. When you are done cooking, swing the rack up against the underside of the cabinet. If you want to build it yourself, you can buy a pair of hinges and make your own wooden rack to hold knives or other small items. If not, you can buy ready-made racks at the store.

8. What to do with unused storage space

Kitchen backsplash racks are often used for decorative ideas. They can be very stylish and useful at the same time, by giving you a lot of storage. Moreover, it is very easy to install, it will only take you a few minutes to put it up. You have a lot of styles available at all price points. We would advise stainless steel; it is easier to clean.

9. Modern countertops and wooden cabinets

Nowadays, modern and luxury kitchen remodeling ideas are endless. To add modernity to the countertops in your kitchen you can use marble, granite, quartz, stainless steel, concrete and so much more. You will really see the difference! As for your cabinets, wood is a great addition and it requires minimal maintenance. We would advise oak kitchen cabinets and wall mounted cabinets for the utmost luxury.

10. Low voltage track lighting

Every kitchen needs good lighting. You can install low-voltage track lighting to brighten your kitchen if you can’t have a lot of natural light. The system is easy to install with basic tools, and it can be done in less than a day. This lighting will mostly focus on the modern countertop and emphasize it. As you know, lighting is one of the most important things in the kitchen, so make sure to have the perfect light.

We hope that all these tips will be useful for your new modern, luxury kitchen. It is now up to you to choose the best components for your kitchen. If you follow our advice, you will have the kitchen of your dreams!
